Development of Array Feeding Network with Beamforming Feature for Local Positioning System
The Global Positioning System (GPS) can accurately determine positions across a large geographical area, making it useful for various applications. However, GPS has a limitation in locating and calculating an object and its position within the room or indoor space. In order to address this issue, a local positioning system is proposed by employing an array of antennas with the ability to do beamforming. This study deals with the development of feeding network for an array antenna with beamforming feature for local positioning system. The proposed array feeding network is configured by a beamforming network (BFN) subsystem that utilizes phase shifter integrated circuit (IC) controlled by a beamforming controller (BFC) subsystem. A corporate feeding network (CFN) designed to operate within the frequency range of 2.4 GHz to 2.5 GHz is used to connect the BFC circuit and each element of antenna array. The result shows that the BFC subsystem can direct the beam of array antenna with the beam direction sweep range from -24.625° to 24.625°.
