Assessment of Wearable Coated-Textile Patch Antenna Performances in IoT Application
This paper deals with an assessment of wearable coated-textile patch antenna performances for Internet of Things (IoT) application. The proposed antenna is constructed using cotton-fabric as the dielectric substrate and coated with metal conductive paint for radiating element, feeding line, and groundplane. To verify its wearability, the proposed antenna is assessed under two conditions, namely a flat condition and a 50 mm bending condition. The results indicate that the textile patch antenna performs effectively in the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) frequency band of 5.8 GHz under both conditions, demonstrating its flexibility without compromising radiation characteristics. The measured fractional bandwidths are 20.68 % and 65.5 % for the flat and bending conditions, respectively. The assessment parameters of antenna performances in IoT application such as download speed, upload speed, and latency are measured and compared to the standard conventional monopole antenna. The assessment results show improved download speed and latency, indicating that the proposed coated-textile patch antenna is a suitable replacement for the conventional one in wearable device, enhancing IoT system performance.
