Analytical Approach for the Prediction of Microwave Sensors Radiation into Biological Media: Preliminary Results

In microwave medical applications, the coupling medium is essential to improve the achievable performances. Here, the effect of coupling media is studied by considering the physical structure of the actual sensor in the frequency range [2], [3] GHz. In particular, an aperture antenna sensor is considered. Under the assumption of one dominant mode in the waveguide feeding the aperture, an approximate analytical model is derived for reflection coefficient Γ, Numerical results performed via full wave simulations confirm the goodness of the analytical model. This suggests that the proposed model can be used as a quick model for selecting the best coupling material in medical applications.
