Microwave to THz-Wave Generation Using Ultra-Broadband Photodetector

We present an ultra-broadband photodetector using a uni-traveling carrier (UTC) structure with a good impedancematching circuit. The measured O-E frequency response exhibited a 3 dB bandwidth beyond 220 GHz. The results of a baseband to high band eye diagram testing demonstration confirm that the photodetector (PD) has great potential for microwave to THz wave generation.

Abstract

We present an ultra-broadband photodetector using a uni-traveling carrier (UTC) structure with a good impedancematching circuit. The measured O-E frequency response exhibited a 3 dB bandwidth beyond 220 GHz. The results of a baseband to high band eye diagram testing demonstration confirm that the photodetector (PD) has great potential for microwave to THz wave generation.
