A Compact Coupling Suppression Method for 1×8 Millimeter Wave Antenna Array
In this work, a novel decoupling scheme is proposed to suppress the mutual coupling among the millimeter wave antenna elements without increasing profile height. The proposed decoupling scheme mainly introduces two microstrips lines between the antenna elements, thus generating a new coupling path that cancels out the original coupling path. Firstly, the decoupling principle is analyzed and demonstrated by 1×2 antenna array, and then further verified by 1×8 antenna array. The results indicate that the proposed decoupling structure has a good effect on both adjacent and non-adjacent elements within the impedance bandwidth, which can also extend the impedance bandwidth. The proposed decoupling approach boasts benefits such as low profile, low insertion loss, and easy to manufacture, which can be applied to multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna arrays.
