Smart Health Ratings: Transforming Foods Labels for Better Health Nutrition Awareness

Aligned with the Government of Indias Fit India Mission, the "Smart Health Ratings" project addresses the critical need for better nutrition awareness to combat lifestyle-related diseases. This solution is being developed in three phases. In Phase 1, the Nutri-Score system is used to generate health ratings based on nutritional values per 100g, which users manually input from the packaging. In Phase 2, a barcode scanner is introduced to automatically detect products and provide health ratings. Phase 3 focuses on training a computer vision using pre-trained models, to visually identify products and generate health ratings without manual input. Additionally, our research emphasizes guiding ideal portion sizes for children consuming packaged foods, aligning with Fit Indias goal of fostering healthier lifestyles. By translating complex nutritional data into clear, actionable health ratings, this project empowers consumers to make informed dietary choices, supporting the nations broader public health objectives.
