A Novel Approach To Isolate Detritus Absorption And Coloured Dissolved Organic Matter For Global Waters

The optical constituents like chlorophyll-a (chl-a), coloured dissolved organic matter $\left(a_{g}\right)$ and particulate matter play significant role in presence of light field within the water bodies. The apparent optical properties (AOPs) are highly dependent on inherent optical properties (IOPs) of the medium. The present study elaborates importance of parameterizations to the bio-optical algorithm in order to isolate the detritus absorption coefficient ($a_{d}$) and coloured dissolved organic $\operatorname{matter}\left(a_{g}\right)$. Over the years, it is well known that they have similar exponential absorption spectra. Therefore, it is difficult to separate them out based on available informations as of now. Here, an attempt was made to meet the major limitations, i.e. choosing the right parameterizations for the model to isolate detritus absorption coefficient and coloured dissolved organic matter from remote sensing reflectance simultaneously. The detritus absorption coefficient ($a_{d}$) was derived at 443 nm from remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) with a mean absolute percentage difference (MAPD) of 40% and the coloured dissolved organic matter $\left(a_{g}\right)$ was derived at 443nm with MAPD of 30% using NASA Bio-optical marine algorithm (NOMAD) dataset for global waters respectively.
