Dual-Polarized Wide-Angle Multi-Beam Dielectric Spherical Lens Antenna in 270 GHz Band Fed by Square Horn Primary Radiators

For mobile communications in the sub-Terahertz band, including the 300 GHz band, an orthogonally polarized antenna capable of wide-angle, high-gain beam scanning is required. In this paper, a dual-polarized wide-angle multi-beam dielectric spherical lens antenna is developed in the 270 GHz band. The developed spherical lens antenna is illuminated by square waveguides fed orthogonally polarized waves. The developed antenna has an optimized primary radiator position to maximize peak gain. By optimizing the arrangement of the square waveguides, we are shown that switching beam scanning is possible with a crossover gain over 29 dBi within the ±30° angle range for dual polarization.

By optimizing the arrangement of the square waveguides, we are shown that switching beam scanning is possible with a crossover gain over 29 dBi within the ±30° angle range for dual polarization.
