Scattering Characteristics of Metamaterial-based Electromagnetic Scattering Sheet with a Protective Layer

In the fifth-generation mobile communications systems, the use of 28 GHz-band radio waves is prevalent, but the use of high frequency bands suffers from high propagation losses, resulting in degrades communications in non-line-ofsight (NLoS) areas. To address this issue, a metamaterial-based electromagnetic wave scattering sheet (EMSS) has been proposed and developed. This research investigates the effects of adding a protective layer to the EMSS. It was found that under specific conditions for thickness and relative permittivity of the protective layer, not only design and durability improve, but also the diffusion coefficient of the EMSS are improved.
