Environmental Monitoring System in a Smart City Based on Urban Infrastructure
With the increasing environmental burden and the rapid development of cities, the need for eco-monitoring is increasing. Existing infrastructure, such as city clocks or street lighting poles, can be used to collect environmental data in large cities. It is advisable to use a mobile network for data transmission. For these purposes, SIM800 series modems are suitable, which connect to the GPRS network via a SIM card. The advantage is that in all cities and regions there is a wide network coverage area with a good signal. There is a problem with the quality and power of the transmitting signal in areas with poor coverage. In this article, we discuss the possibility of developing a device for monitoring the environmental situation in the city and technical solutions to improve the quality of reception and transmission of the GPRS signal. Based on the prototype, it was possible to identify the prospects for using such devices and evaluate the effectiveness of the data collection system.
