An Efficient Contention Resolution Approach for Congestion Control in Optical Burst Switching Network

All optical communication system is the backbone of high speed internet network. Optical Burst Switching (OBS) technology addresses the next-generation bandwidth demands most efficiently. Although this technology is highly efficient but its one-way reservation policy may leads to burst contention. Various contention resolution mechanisms have been proposed by the researchers, however in this paper a feedback-based scheme is proposed for possible contention resolution. Nonlinearities present in the optical fiber, significantly affect the network performance. Investigation has further been extended to consider the different nonlinearities present in the fiber and their effects on the overall performance of the network. Proper mathematical model has been developed for the same. Results indicate substantial performance enhancement with the proposed feedback loop for burst processing.
