Dual-Stream Attention for Small Object Detection

This study addresses the challenges of detecting small objects in visually complex environments by utilizing cutting-edge advancements in deep learning. We propose a novel framework which incorporates a dual-stream self-attention mechanism within a multi-head architecture. To further enhance detection precision, our approach employs an innovative output reweighting strategy. The framework is specifically tailored to overcome the limitations of conventional detection models, particularly the difficulty of small objects spanning multiple tokens in feature maps. By adaptively scaling attention across various heads, our method effectively captures intricate details at multiple levels of granularity, significantly improving the identification and localization of small objects. A key component of the proposed model is a softmax-driven reweighting function that prioritizes features essential for object recognition while minimizing irrelevant details and background noise. This targeted refinement not only boosts accuracy but also ensures a more streamlined and efficient detection process. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrate that our model surpasses existing state-of-the-art techniques in both performance metrics and computational efficiency, making it a scalable solution for real-world applications. Beyond its practical benefits, this work contributes to the theoretical development of attention mechanisms in neural networks, offering new insights into their role in small object detection tasks.
