Study of Mode Distribution and Recognition in the Intercoupled Phase-Locking Magnetron
In the intercoupled magnetron, the study and recognition of specific mode distribution are critical for suppressing interference modes, which is a key scientific problem in improving the phase-locking stability. This work focuses on this problem by analyzing and recognizing the mode distribution through a combination of equivalent circuit, eigenmode analysis, and measurements of field distribution differences along the azimuthal direction. The differences in frequency deviation measured by the perturbation method demonstrate the differences in the field distributions between the operating mode and the neighboring interference modes. Based on the mode recognition, a method of suppressing the interference modes by introducing specifically designed abrupt interfaces in the coupling structure is discussed. Particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation results show that the excitation of the interference modes is effectively suppressed. The phase-locking time is shortened from approximately 80–40 ns and the jitter in the locked phase difference is improved.
