Industrial Internet of Things Energy Efficiency: Investigating Low-Power Communication Protocols and Eco-Friendly Data Management in Manufacturing Settings

A revolutionary change in production processes, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) allows for the acquisition and analysis of data in real-time, which in turn improves operational efficiency. But there are serious worries about energy consumption and environmental effect due to the expansion of IIoT devices. In order to improve energy efficiency in manufacturing environments, this research explores low-power communication protocols and eco-friendly data management systems. Our evaluation is based on a thorough examination of existing low-power communication protocols, including LoRaWAN, Zigbee, and NB-IoT, and how well they reduce power consumption without compromising device connectivity. To further lessen the environmental impact of data processing and transmission, we investigate green data management strategies such as data aggregation and edge computing. The study uses a multi-pronged strategy, combining theoretical research with practical case studies, to measure the potential energy savings that can be achieved by applying these protocols and management techniques. The findings support the idea that a more eco-friendly production ecosystem can be achieved by reducing energy usage significantly through the optimization of communication protocols in conjunction with the adoption of sustainable data management procedures. In order to fully harness the energy-saving potential of IIoT, we also bring attention to the problems with current low-power protocols, including their inability to scale and their lack of compatibility. This research seeks to lay the groundwork for a future where IIoT is more sustainable through the use of cutting-edge communication technologies and creative data management strategies. Its ultimate goal is to contribute to the larger objectives of Industry 4.0 and environmental responsibility.
