Improving Energy Efficiency of 5000 Plate Mill Rolling Stand Electric Drive via SVPWM Algorithm with a Seven-Stage Switching Sequence

The aim of the article is to increase the energy efficiency of 5000 plate mill rolling stand electric drive based on a three-level (3L) neutral point clamped (NPC) voltage source inverter (VSI) via improved space-vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) algorithm. To achieve the goal, the paper proposes a new SVPWM algorithm with a seven-stage switching sequence. The developed mathematical model is implemented in the Matlab/Simulink. The total harmonic distortion (THD) factor for the established and suggested SVPWM algorithms is about 3.59% and 3.18% respectively. Thus, the deployment of the suggested SVPWM algorithm shall help significantly reduce power losses, which makes it a promising solution for energy efficiency improvement in metallurgy.
