An Automated IoT-Enabled Real-Time Intravenous Infusion cum Remote Patient Monitoring System

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed critical vulnerabilities in healthcare systems worldwide, including an acute shortage of nursing staff and the inability to provide continuous patient monitoring. Traditional Intravenous (IV) infusion systems, while present everywhere, have many challenges such as inconsistent flow rates and dangerous backflow issues, leading to significant risks to patient safety. These limitations amplify the burden on healthcare workers, threatening patient outcomes in high-stress environments. To address these challenges, we present an IoT-Enabled IV Infusion System with integrated remote patient monitoring capabilities. This innovative solution automates medication delivery, ensures precise flow control, and provides real-time monitoring. The system connects to a central platform via IoT, allowing healthcare providers to monitor infusion parameters remotely and receive alerts in case of anomalies, significantly reducing the need for constant bedside presence. Our implementation demonstrates enhanced safety, efficiency, and scalability. The results highlight its potential to mitigate nurse shortages, prevent medical errors, and transform IV therapy into a proactive, data-driven process. This system represents a crucial step towards resilient healthcare, ensuring patient safety and resource optimization in both routine and crisis scenarios.
