HIV/AIDS epidemiology and morbidity-mortality in Brazil: a regional analysis from 2003 to 2023
The epidemiological analysis associated with morbidity and mortality based on reported HIV/AIDS cases in Brazil between 2003 and 2023 revealed complex nuances in the distribution of cases by age group and region of the country. The article utilizes data from DATASUS, conducting a thorough investigation of incidence, prevalence, and trends in the frequency and distribution of cases over the aforementioned period. The results provide a comprehensive view of the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS in the Brazilian context, highlighting disparities in actions and resources. This situation may be attributed to population density, access to services, socioeconomic conditions, or the capacity for professional training. The study also emphasizes the diagnosis among the young population and a predominance in males. It concludes that the promotion of knowledge and adequate surveillance are essential to mitigate the impact of the disease on the population and to support strategic public policies in line with regionalization.
