SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT“I WILL LOVE UKRAINIAN CULTURE, OH!”(A review of the textbook: Nataliia Bartkiv, Kseniia Borodin. Yabluko: A Textbook of Ukrainian as a Foreign Language (Intermediate Level) Lviv: Ukrainian Catholic University Pres

The review analyzes a textbook on learning Ukrainian as a foreign language for the intermediate level from the Yabluko series, published in Lviv in 2022 by the Ukrainian Catholic University Press. In 2015, two textbooks of this series, planned by the School of Ukrainian Language and Culture at UCU, were published: one by Marianna Burak for the basic level and one by Olena Synchak for the advanced level. The reviewed publication is the final step in the development of the project under the now well-known and legendary name “Yabluko,” which is the original acronym for “I Will Love Ukrainian Culture, O!” The authors, Nataliia Bartkiv and Kseniia Borodin, following the developed principles of compiling this type of textbook and drawing on their own extensive teaching experience, have created an extremely valuable intellectual product designed to teach Ukrainian not only to foreigners but also to those for whom Ukrainian is or is becoming an inherited language, reflecting the current situation in connection with the formation of a new Ukrainian diaspora in Europe. The publication of the textbook was dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, which was first celebrated in the context of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine after February 2022. The author analyzes the structure of the textbook, the main teaching approaches and methods of presenting grammatical and thematic material, the level of elaboration of practical tasks and exercises aimed primarily at developing communicative skills of Ukrainian language learners. It is noted that linguistic and country studies aspects are also important elements of the «Yabluko» at the intermediate level, which introduce readers to Ukrainian history and culture, everyday life, and Ukrainian traditions. The educational material presented in the textbook by Nataliia Bartkiv and Kseniia Borodin fully complies with the Standardized Requirements for Teaching Ukrainian as a Foreign Language (Kyiv, 2020) and follows the norms of the current Ukrainian Spelling Norms of 2019. Key words: textbook, Ukrainian as a foreign language, Ukrainian as inherited language, linguodidactics.
