Biology of Tamarind Seed Beetle Caryedon serratus (Olivier) on Tamarindus indica
Tamarind seed beetle Caryedon serratus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) is a major pest infesting tamarind in India. The biology of tamarind seed beetle was studied from April 2024 to May 2024 at Tamil Nadu. This study focused on various aspects of Tamarind seed beetle biology, including its egg period (5-9 days), larval period (29-34 days), pupal period (12-15 days), male adult longevity (17-21 days), female adult longevity (20-25 days), pre-oviposition (1-8 days), oviposition (6-11 days) and post-oviposition period (2-4 days), fecundity (80-97), and total lifecycle of male and female. The total lifecycle of male tamarind seed beetle was 67- 69 days and female were 69- 80 days, respectively.
