The Specificity of Authorial Style Determined by the Cramer-von-Mises Test
In this research, we have made an attempt to evaluate the strength of the Cramer-von-Mises test of uniformity on the material of modern American fiction. The novelty of this study is application of the test for revealing the distribution of parts of speech. The established distribution of parts of speech is an indicator of the authorial style specificity. The level of significance was set at 0.05. The experiment proved that the test was powerful. The data from the sample of the literary work “Harry Potter and the Philisopher's Stone” by J. K. Rowling did not follow a uniform distribution. It was an important result as different parts of the same literary work had different semantic content, different level of expressiveness and emotionality. Profound study of a literary work involves a thorough analysis of the parts of text that differ from each other. The level of test validity is 95%. We used Python for calculations. The practical application of the research is the authorial style identification.
