Finite element simulation of lateral wave propagation in an ultrasound transducer finding Crosstalk effect
The reliable operation of an ultrasound transducer depends on its piezoelectric elements working. But, some factors affect its performance, the physical factor causes damage to the transducer structure. The crosstalk is a physical factor that generates spurious vibration around of all the transducer elements. The spurious vibrations generated by ultrasound waves can cause micro structural damage. The novelty of this work is the simulation of the crosstalk on the piezoelectric backing layer of the transducer. It is important because the structural damage is progressive and complicated to identify. This damage can go unnoticed, it may even break or fracture the backing layer. By the knowing crosstalk interaction with the holder, it would be possible to design to minimize the damage caused by Crosstalk. Collaboration with areas such as materials technology would make it possible to design and build more efficient transducers.
