Towards responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in academic writing

Artificial intelligence has greatly invaded our life at all levels. AI tools are gaining an increasing popularity because of their claimed rapidity and effectiveness in accomplishing various daily activities. People of different ages are becoming addicted to AI applications. Perhaps one of the main sectors that have been affected by AI invasion is that of education. Nowadays, it becomes part of many teachers’ and students’ routine to rely, in one way or another, on AI services to do educational tasks. Especially when it comes to producing a piece of academic writing, AI with all its great potentials seems the only savior of many teachers and students particularly those who prefer ready-made productions. This descriptive study sheds light on the use of AI tools in different domains including education. It discusses issues related to the integration of AI in academic writing. It seeks to answer especially three main questions: How can AI tools improve academic writing? What AI tools used in academic writing? And how can AI tools be used effectively and ethically in academic writing? This study ends with a set of recommendations that would improve the integration of AI tools in academic writing.
