New Brazilian implant model for cervical arthrodesis in horses
A 2-year-old male Brasileiro de Hipismo colt, with a body weight of 390 kg, was diagnosed with cervical dislocation C3C4. The treatment chosen was spinal fusion between the affected cervical vertebrae, using a new model of cervical implant manufactured in Brazil, which is low cost, high strength and easy to acquire. It proved to be effective, causing no rejection, being completely surrounded by bone tissue 60 days after surgery, reducing ataxia from grade 2-3 to almost imperceptible. Initially, it was a promising result, requiring more surgical procedures like this one to have a statistical study confirming or not its efficiency.
