Optimization of fiber links for frequency comb transfer through loss minimization in dispersion compensation
In the fiber link for comb-based frequency transfer, excessive loss induced by dispersion compensation adversely affects performance through both direct and cascading mechanisms. Here, we proposed a method for optimizing optical fiber links by minimizing losses in dispersion compensation and developed low-loss optimized designs across various transmission distances. The optimization achieves a loss reduction of nearly 20 dB when the transmission distance exceeds 500 km (500 km, 560 km, 600 km, 630 km, 700 km), effectively reducing the need for relay EDFAs. We also performed a transmission test on a 704 km minimized loss optimized link for frequency comb transmission, experimentally demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method with a loss reduction of 16.09 dB and an instability loss of 2.95 × 10 −17 at 10,000 s. These results indicated that the proposed optimization contributes to the establishment of guidance schemes for long-haul field links for frequency comb transmission, laying the foundation for research on various types of precision physical measurements.
