Neurological «mimicry» of neuroendocrine neoplasia
Background. Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are tumours that are rarely encountered. According to statistics, NENs account for 0.5% of all malignant tumours. NENs originate from the diffuse endocrine system, whose cells are characterised by partly neurological and partly endocrine features. Purpose – of the study was to present a case of an insulin-producing neuroendocrine tumour. Materials and methods. We present a clinical case of a patient diagnosed with insulinoma (insulin-producing neuroendocrine tumour) according to the diagnostic criteria established by the protocol. Resalts. The clinical features of the course and «mimicry» of the disease in various neurological and mental disorders, typical changes detected in MRI and CT of the abdominal cavity, typical laboratory characteristics (use of modern laboratory biomarkers of the disease), which provide the greatest opportunities for the diagnosis of this disease and possible methods of treatment (conservative approach and surgery) are presented. Conclusions. We describe a rare case of NEN, an insulin-producing neuroendocrine tumour. Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy is the method of choice in the treatment of such patients.
