Global Dynamics of Mosquito Population Model With Seasonality and Spatial Heterogeneity

ABSTRACT As mosquitoes are major vectors for many diseases, effectively managing their populations is crucial for controlling vector‐borne diseases. We develop a degenerate reaction‐diffusion model to analyze how seasonal changes, the mobility of mosquitoes, and spatial diversity influence the dynamics of mosquito populations in this study. The model accounts for seasonal variations in temperature across different geographical regions, which directly influence the life cycle and reproduction rates of mosquitoes. We establish the mosquito reproduction number and obtain the threshold dynamics in terms of . The mosquito population is demonstrated to either go extinct if or achieve stability at a positive periodic solution if . In particular, for the critical case of , the global stability of the mosquito‐free state is obtained. Numerically, we conduct our study on the mosquito population in Kadiogo, Burkina Faso.

Abstract

ABSTRACT As mosquitoes are major vectors for many diseases, effectively managing their populations is crucial for controlling vector‐borne diseases. The model accounts for seasonal variations in temperature across different geographical regions, which directly influence the life cycle and reproduction rates of mosquitoes. We establish the mosquito reproduction number and obtain the threshold dynamics in terms of . In particular, for the critical case of , the global stability of the mosquito‐free state is obtained. Numerically, we conduct our study on the mosquito population in Kadiogo, Burkina Faso.
