Alliance of “Academia” and the Zubov Institute: the Possibility of (Self-)Preservation?

The article examines one of the stages of institutional development of the Academia publishing house, associated with its transformation into a publishing house at the Russian Institute of Art History. The authors reconstruct the initial period of the “alliance” between the publishing house and the Zubov Institute on the basis of office records and legal sources, plans of the publishing house and protocols of the Institute. From the authors' point of view, the co-operation between the Publishing House and the Institute was a successful situational decision and, above all, a mutually beneficial alliance that allowed both to continue functioning in the conditions of the changing socio-political and socio-cultural context without contradicting the goals and objectives of both.
