Evaluation of the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of ginseng loaded by ZnONP cream on glutaraldehyde-induced dermatitis during infection control.
Background This study examined whether local application of natural products (ginseng extract, ginseng-loaded ZnONPs, and ZnONPs alone) can effectively prevent dermatitis in healthcare workers exposed to glutaraldehyde 2% disinfectant during infection control procedures. Materials and methods The experimental design comprised five female mice groups. Group 1 (G1) served as the control group without treatment. Group 2 (G2) was exposed to 2% glutaraldehyde (GLU) spray at a dose of 2 mg/kg body weight. Group 3 (G3) received GLU spray plus topical ginseng extract cream. Group 4 (G4) was treated with GLU spray plus topical zinc oxide nanoparticle (ZnONP) cream. Group 5 (G5) administered GLU spray plus topical ginseng-loaded ZnONP cream. The treatment regimen was administered five days per week over a 30-day period for all experimental animals. Results On the basis of our results, glutaraldehyde-induced dermatitis changed the histological appearance as well as the biochemical parameters by increasing the mRNA expression of TNF-α, IL-1b, nf-kb 1, and ptgs2, and downregulating the mRNA expression of TGFB1. Conclusion Treatment with ginseng-ZnONPs and ZnONPs had a preventive effect on glutaraldehyde across the suppression of oxidative stress and inflammation markers and the augmentation of antioxidants.
