Ultrafast performance of the gamma-ray detection system with a diode laser

Reaction history measurements are fundamental components of diagnosing inertial confinement fusion (ICF) implosions, which require implementation and development on measuring fusion gamma rays. A new detection system of fusion gamma ray, which performs an ultrafast time response, has been developed recently. Using a pulsed gamma-ray source with a duration of about 10 ps, a temporal resolution of better than 100 ps was determined by two methods in the experiment. In addition, the detection system shows a reliable merit in radiation shielding, which is resulted from the advantages of the laser probe. A flat feature of the energy response, over the range of higher than ∼2 MeV, has also been acquired with Monte Carlo methods. This detection system exhibits a temporal response of the rising time of ∼70 ps and the full width at half maximum of ∼117 ps, which is very promising for some ICF reaction history measurements.
