Câmaras de eco e a barreira algorítmica da democracia

This article will analyze social media echo chambers as mechanisms that strengthen a barrier that harms political pluralism, strengthens polarizations in the digital context, and harms democracy. This is because the over-personalization that guides the formation of these chambers contributes to the formation of uniformed masses on social media. Thus, the study is important in listing the harmful way that this attribute exerts in undermining democracy. To this end, a review of national and international literature was carried out. The conclusions of the work follow an understanding that echo chambers endorse the dissemination of hate speech and the propagation of fake news, which, as a consequence, contribute to a less peaceful society, in which journalistic, scientific, and institutional narratives are gradually and effectively discredited.
