How to simultaneously develop the cognitive and physical qualities of creative specialties university students?

Background and purpose An intricate relationship exists between a student's cognitive abilities and physical health, particularly in the realm of higher education, where both elements are essential for optimal learning and performance. The aim of this research is to explore effective strategies for concurrently enhancing the cognitive and physical qualities of university students, as the key issue lies in identifying pedagogical approaches and training regimens that foster balanced development in both areas; to address this problem, data will be required on existing curriculum, student performance evaluations, physical fitness assessments, and the perceived impacts of integrated cognitive-physical programs on student outcomes. Material and methods In this review, we followed the PRISMA guidelines for compiling literature reviews. We searched the following scientific databases: Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, DOAJ, Google academia. Inclusion criteria. Matching at least three search words from the following list: physical education, students, creativity, art, specialization, physical qualities, cognitive abilities. The following inclusion criteria were met in our review: publication of the article in a peer-reviewed journal; original articles had to have mandatory tests for significance of differences or other parametric or nonparametric statistical methods; preference was given to systematic reviews and meta-analyses in review articles. Exclusion criteria: mismatch with at least three search terms; non-peer-reviewed publication; original article not supported by parametric or nonparametric statistical methods; review article is not a systematic review or meta-analysis. Results It was highlighted the intricate links between cognitive and physical development in university students, demonstrating that both facets can be cultivated simultaneously through structured intervention. By systematically reviewing existing literature and conducting original research, key strategies for integrating physical and cognitive training were uncovered. Results indicated that engaging in combined physical activities, alongside cognitive challenges, significantly enhances executive functioning and academic performance among students, addressing the research problem posed at the outset. Conclusions The study found that practical applications—such as designed programs that incorporate physical exercise alongside cognitive tasks—promote improved learning and retention, thereby answering the initial inquiry on co-development of these qualities. The implications of these findings extend to both academic settings and broader educational policies, underscoring the need for universities to consider a holistic approach in designing curriculum that strengthens both cognitive skills and physical health among students.
