Abstract

The article provides a comparative analysis of the development indicators of St. Petersburg and Russia with the aim of identifying identical trends and differences. This analysis is of interest in connection with the search for factors affecting the dynamics of fertility in St. Petersburg as a megacity and in the Russian state. St. Petersburg is characterized by a high standard of living, but at the same time it demonstrates similar demographic pro-cesses to the all-Russian ones. Statistical data of St. Petersburg and Russia are used as an information base for comparative analysis, which together form information analytics. It serves as a methodological basis for the realization of the research idea – justification of the possibility to disseminate the positive experience of St. Pe-tersburg in other Russian regions. The aim of the proposed review of social indicators of St. Petersburg and Russia is to identify key development trends and to demonstrate that St. Petersburg can serve as a benchmark for the development and improvement of demographic and social policy in Russian regions. The information sources were selected indicators of social development from 2020 to 2024, taken from the official websites of Rosstat and Petrostat, as well as materials from government authorities. Description of statistical data was ac-companied by visualization of key indicators. The analysis of factual data demonstrated that a number of indi-cators of social development of St. Petersburg are identical to the all-Russian indicators, which allows extrapo-lating measures of socio-economic nature to improve social policy in Russian regions.
