Efficiency analysis of non-conventional lubricants in drilling processes

Technological advances in the search for alternative products to replace those of petroleum origin are an imminent necessity. Improper disposal of lubricants can cause irreversible damage to the environment. The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of non-toxic, biodegradable and recyclable canola oil as a cutting fluid during the drilling process of ABNT 1045 steel. The study highlights the promising use of this oil as a cutting fluid in the metalworking industry, showing that its performance is comparable to other oils commonly used in machining operations. The implementation of these renewable oils under the Minimum Quantity Fluid (MQF) technique offers environmental and economic advantages, contributing to sustainable development and thus causing low environmental impacts. In-depth investigation of cutting variables, especially the influence of speed, feed and depth, provides valuable insights for optimising the drilling process.
