ANALYTICAL MODEL FOR HEAD RESPONSE WITH HELMET UNDER BALLISTIC IMPACT

In order to improve the understanding of the injury mechanism under blunt impact, and to make up for the deficiencies of experiments and numerical simulations in terms of computational efficiency and mechanism analysis, the head with helmet was simplified into a liquid-filled multilayer spherical shell structure with a hemispherical shell. Corresponding to the anatomical features of the skull, brain tissue, soft meninge, and hard meninge, analytical model of the response of head with helmet under ballistic impact load was established based on contact deformation and kinematics theory, and compared with public linear and nonlinear blunt impact head models for verification. Based on the analytical model, the head response under the influence of factors such as ballistic impact velocity and helmet weight were obtained. Combined with head injury criteria (HIC), the risk of head injury under ballistic impact was predicted, providing a theoretical basis for helmet improvement and injury evaluation after protection.
