The effect of energy storage and new energy installed capacity on the operation performance of power system
With the continuous growth of new energy installations, the high proportion of new energy integration has intensified the volatility of power sources, further resulting in large fluctuations in the power grid, poor transient support capabilities, slow active regulation responses, difficulties in real-time power balance regulation and poor real-time control. The problem of efficient absorption of new energy has become a constraint on the development of new energy. The energy storage system is a very flexible regulatory resource. It operates reliably, has a fast response speed, strong power grid support capabilities, and is simple to be dispatched by the power grid. It can achieve a highly complementary combination of characteristics with new energy. While improving the safe and stable operation of the power grid, it can significantly enhance the utilization rate of new energy. Combined with the actual situation of a certain power grid, this paper takes new energy, energy storage and thermal power generation entities as the objects and proposes a collaborative control method among multi-resource power generation entities. Through analysis and simulation, it is concluded that when the scale of other power generation entities in the power grid remains unchanged, if the installed capacity of energy storage increases by 15 GW, the overall operating cost of the power grid will be reduced by 14%, and the proportion of new energy power generation in the total power generation of the whole network will increase by 22%. If the existing installed capacity of energy storage is doubled, the proportion of new energy power generation in the total power generation of the whole network will increase to 63%, but the overall operating cost of the power grid will also increase by about 20%. Meanwhile, the level of new energy utilization also has different contributions to the peak shaving and frequency modulation of the power grid. When the utilization rate is lower than 95%, the peak shaving effect of new energy is more obvious, and when it is higher than that, the frequency modulation effect is more prominent. This paper has guiding significance for the safe and stable operation of provincial power grids and can also guide the healthy development of the energy storage industry.
