Difference analysis of thermal runaway between ternary battery and lithium iron phosphate battery based on ARC test
Lithium-ion batteries are an important component of new energy systems, but safety remains the key concerns in the application of lithium-ion cells. In this article, the safety characteristics of ternary batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries with similar capacity produced by the same manufacturer were analyzed by accelerated calorimeter and gas chromatography. The results show that the self-heating initial temperature and thermal runaway initial temperature of ternary battery is lower than that of lithium iron phosphate battery, and the maximum temperature after thermal runaway is larger. In addition, ternary batteries produce more gas. So ternary batteries are more dangerous overall.
