Spectrally Efficient Generation of Optical Frequency Comb by Employing Cascading of Modulator with EDFA
An optical frequency comb (OFC) has become promising source of light for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) communications. The increasing demand for greater bandwidth and spectral efficiency can be met by using OFC generators, which substitute numerous laser sources with a single laser source. Optical frequency comb is an innovative alternative to the multiple lasers in DWDM system. An OFC features a set of equidistant spectral lines, which eradicate frequency control of each line. This manuscript proposed an approach to generate flattened and evenly spaced 50 optical comb lines with 2dB maximum power deviation by cascading of modulator with EDFA. The proposed optical network exhibits broad frequency spectrum with highly flattened comb lines. This approach reduces energy consumption and system complexity, making it ideal for ultrafast optical communication system.
