Study on Symmetric Lobe-vein Liquid-cooled Plates for Lithium-ion Power Batteries

Abstract Addressing the issues of pressure loss in existing leaf-vein flow channels on the market and the inability of current designs to meet lithium battery thermal safety requirements under extreme discharge conditions, a novel symmetric leaf-vein structure for liquid-cooled plates has been developed. Simulation models have been created for both the conventional leaf-vein liquid cooling plate and the new symmetric version, enabling a detailed analysis of their pressure drop and average temperature performance. The results indicate that the symmetric design reduces pressure drop by approximately 14% and lowers the average temperature by roughly 4.16% compared to the conventional leaf-vein cooling plate. Furthermore, as the inlet flow rate increases, the symmetric leaf-vein liquid cooling plate demonstrates an increasingly significant advantage in terms of pressure drop reduction, while maintaining its superiority in average temperature control.
