Dynamic Responses of Multi-Axle-Vehicle-Pavement Coupled System During Braking Process

Abstract During the braking process of heavy vehicles, a complex interaction between vehicle-pavement system occurs, potentially causing pavement subsidence, cracks, and damage. Hence, real-time monitoring of the structural health of layered pavements is crucial to guarantee the smooth progress of subsequent operations. In this paper, a fully multi-axle-vehicle-pavement model is proposed for dynamic response analysis during its braking process. Based on the Newmark-Beta method and the modal superposition method, the vehicle-pavement system is coupled through the interaction of contact force. One type of asphalt concrete pavement is studied, with random roughness profile and slip rate taken into account for this specific pavement type. Results show that there is obvious difference in the vehicle dynamic response and pavement displacement when the vehicle is braking, which can provide a theoretical basis for subsequent research on pavement structural health monitoring.
