Vessel Routing Chance-constrained Bi-objective Optimization for Marine Debris Collection
Abstract Marine debris pollution not only destroys marine ecosystem, but also poses a certain threat to human health. Vessel collection is the primary method for marine debris collection. This paper studies the problem of optimizing the vessel route for debris collection. Firstly, considering the weight of the debris as a random variable, and the impact of vessel speed on travel time and carbon emissions, a bi-objective chance-constrained model is established to minimize the travel time and carbon emissions of vessel. Next, the chance-constrained model is transformed into a deterministic model using the distribution function transformation method. Then, we design the particle swarm algorithm with hybrid adaptive large-scale neighborhood search to solve the deterministic model. Finally, the debris collection near Shanghai harbor in East China Sea is calculated as an example. The results show that choosing the optimal time for marine debris collection reduces the travel time by 3.59% and carbon emissions by 13.39%.
