An Extendable High Step-Up Quadratic Boost Topology Having Low Voltage Stress on MOSFETs

A generalized quadratic boost converter topology has been proposed in the paper which offers large voltage gain with less voltage stresses at the switches. The proposed converter includes a basic unit cell having capacitors and diodes. By repeating the sequence of these units, the desired gain in voltage of the cascaded diode-capacitor-based quadratic boost converter (CDCQBC) is ensured with less voltage stress appearing at the switches. The converter’s cost becomes lower because the required switches is having lesser voltage rating. The available voltage gain of the converter makes CDCQBC a viable option to boost the voltage of renewable energy-based sources like solar photovoltaic (PV) sources, fuel cells, etc. The performance of this converter in continuous mode od conduction has been analyzed. Further, the effect of nonidealities of the elements included in CBHIC on efficiency and the voltage gain of this converter has been studied. The assessment of the proposed CDCQBC is done with various state-of-the-art quadratic boost converters reported in the literature and the main features of this converter are enlightened. To validate the findings, a lab prototype of the proposed converter having a power rating of 400 W has been developed and the experimental analysis are include
