WESTERN CULTURE AND ITS IMPACT ON MUSLIM WOMEN’S PRACTICES IN NORTHERN NIGERIA: CHALLENGES AND QURANIC APPROACHES TO REFORM

The current reality reveals that Muslim women in Northern Nigeria have embraced Western practices and behaviors, which have significantly disrupted their religious, cultural, and social balance. This impact is evident in their neglect of essential responsibilities and a reduced ability to fulfill their roles effectively and appropriately.Accordingly, this study aims to shed light on the changes in women's behaviors across various domains, such as dress, adornment, and social relationships, as a result of Western cultural influences. These changes have negatively affected their ability to contribute meaningfully to social and cultural development.Furthermore, the study seeks to understand the challenges women face in preserving their Islamic identity amid these changes and to explore Quranic reform pathways to guide and correct women's behaviors, making them effective partners and positive agents of comprehensive progress. This research employs a descriptive-analytical methodology, which allows for an accurate portrayal of these changes while analyzing the Quranic reform paths in addressing their effects. The study finds that Muslim women in Northern Nigeria, under the influence of Western cultures, have deviated from upright Islamic conduct and adopted practices conflicting with religious principles, thereby weakening their ability to maintain their personal and religious identity. The research concludes that Quranic reform serves as an essential tool to confront these challenges, providing effective strategies to strengthen women's ability to preserve their Islamic identity and positively contribute to societal development.
