EVALUATING THE IMPACT OF DISTANCE LEARNING SYSTEMS ON EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
This study investigates the impacts of distance learning systems on educational outcomes during the pandemic, zeroing in on how this abrupt transition has affected academic achievements and engagement levels, and discussing the challenges that have been posed for educators and learners.A case study research design was used through the analysis of 12 various studies conducted at different levels and regions of education. The findings revealed losses in learning that are statistically significant, particularly in the key subjects of math and reading, whereby these losses were more severe for localities that were least endowed with technology and among students who had a lower socio-economic status.Lack of face-toface interaction in Internet space leads to decreased motivation and poor involvement, which in turn increases lowered academic achievement.Digital divide is pinpointed as a critical issue, further aggravating existing educational inequalities. These limitations aside, the pandemic might also have actually accelerated the utilization of digital tools and innovative pedagogies, even for long-term benefit when well-integrated with the traditional educational model.Research should be carried out further to contribute toward investment in educational technology and infrastructure and developing strategies to improve student engagement within online learning environments. This investment is critical to building a more resilient and equitable system of education to stand up in the face of any future turmoil.
