IRAQI WOMEN'S RIGHTS IN BALANCE OF ISLAMIC SHARIA: ''SOCIOLOGICAL COMPARISON BETWEEN IRAQI WOMEN'S RIGHTS IN RURAL AND IN URBAN REGIONS''
The primary focus of this research is to provide insight into Islamic Sharia and women's rights. The aim of this research is to examine women's rights within the framework of Islamic Sharia and the role of Iraqi society in achieving these rights, with a particular focus on their fundamental economic rights. The study seeks to explore the differences between Iraqi women living in urban areas and those in rural regions.Specifically, it investigates whether women in both settings can equally exercise their economic rights, such as owning and selling property, engaging in financial contracts, receiving wages, and freely transferring their assets. This study is based on semi-structured interviews conducted with 10 Iraqi women from urban areas and 10 from rural areas, each answering 12 questions related to their economic rights under Islamic Sharia. The findings reveal that many women in rural areas face significant abuses, with their economic and human rights frequently neglected. They are often subjected to oppression, humiliation, and violence at the hands of family members, including cousins, brothers, husbands, and, in some cases, even their own sons.In contrast, the interviews with urban women -most of whom have a higher level of education-indicate that they are more capable of defending their rights, pursuing legal action, and asserting control over their lives and financial matters.Ultimately, the study draws its conclusions based on the quantitative analysis of the collected data.
