THE EFFECT OF HEAD ELEVATION ON AIRWAYS PATENCY IN POST-SPINAL ANESTHESIA PATIENTS IN CSI OF RSUD SALATIGA

Background: Surgery patients often receive anesthesia with spinal or Sub Arachnoid Block (SAB). Spinal anesthesia is performed by injecting local analgesic drugs into the subarachnoid space between the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae. Postspinal patients usually have different airway patency. Airway patency consists of saturation and respiratory rate, therefore an intervention is needed, namely head elevation to increase the level of airway patency. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of head elevation on airway patency in post-spinal anesthesia patients in ICSI of Salatiga Regional Public Hospital.Research Method: This study employed a quantitative method using preexperimental with one group pre-test and post-test. The sampling technique used quota sampling, totaling 30 respondents with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data collection technique used an observation sheet. Data analysis utilized the Wilcoxon test. Results: Airway patency at saturation before being given the majority elevation in the less category, as many as 19 respondents (63.3%), whereas respiratory frequency the majority was in the less category, as many as 17 respondents (56.7%). After being given head elevation, the saturation level was mostly in the good category as many as 26 respondents (86.7%), then at the respiratory frequency level the majority category was good as many as 21 respondents (70.0%). The results of the statistical test using Wilcoxon obtained a significance value of 0.00 <0.05, which means that ho is rejected so that there is an effect of head elevation on airway patency in post-spinal anesthesia patients at CSI Salatiga Regional Public Hospital. Conclusion: Head elevation intervention can improve airway patency. Suggestion: Further research is needed using a larger number of respondents. Keywords : Spinal Anesthesia, Head Elevation, Airway Patency
