Abstract

For efficient radiation, a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) fed by a rectangular slot aperture coupled feed excites the HEM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">11δ</inf> mode. To increase the directive gain, a 1 × 4 CDRA array is designed. 5 dBi improvement in gain is obtained by a 1 × 4 CDRA array. A cylindrically conformal phased array, placed on a 720 mm radius cylindrical surface, is presented for wide scanning. The scanning linear array antenna's main beam can scan in the frequency spectrum from -30° and +30° with a gain fluctuation of less than 4 dBi. Within the impedance bandwidth, less than -25 dB of isolation between adjacent elements is obtained. 12.7 dBi peak gain at 7.5 GHz frequency is obtained. Efficiency of antenna is greater than 90 % for the whole band. Additionally, with a height of 0.08 λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf>, the 1 × 4 CDRA array has a low profile.
