EDGE EFFECTS IN FLYER PLATE-LONG ROD PROJECTILE INTERACTIONS
Flyer plates from explosive reactive armor can be efficient disruption components in the defense of armored vehicles against kinetic energy threats. Edge effects in interactions between flyer plates and long rod projectiles occur when the projectile strikes the flyer plate close to the plate edge or when the plate strikes the projectile along its body. The abrupt loading or unloading that then occurs may enhance or reduce the desired effect of deforming and fracturing the projectile. It is found that the edge effect leads to different deformation and fracturing behavior of projectiles, indicating that the phenomena should be studied further.
