BODY INJURIES CAUSED BY RESIDUAL JET MATERIAL AND ARMOR SPALLS AFTER IT HAD BEEN PERFORATED BY THE PG-7 HEAT PROJECTILE
The study aimed to investigate the effects of the armor spalls produced by the jet material and the residual jet material after the explosion of the PG-7 HEAT projectile on the human body. The study concludes that if the jet material perforates the vehicle's armor, the residual jet (even the one on the verge of armor penetration) constitutes a lethal threat to the crew of the attacked vehicle, and it is challenging to protect against the mentioned threat. Additionally, it was shown that when the stream passes through the human body, the bone fragments generated may constitute secondary projectiles that pose a danger to people outside the area of the stream passage. However, armor spalls, on the other hand, are a less severe threat, as many of them can be stopped by spall-liners.
