The Reflections about a Dissertation Culture in Modern Russian Historiography
The author reviews the monograph “Dissertation culture of the Russian historical and scientific community: the experience and practice of preparing and defending dissertations (19th - early 20th century)” (Moscow, St. Petersburg, 2022). The author believes that the obvious advantages of this publication include an original idea, a complex character, reliance on a wide range of historical sources, thoroughness of study of the material, a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis. At the same time, the monograph poses many new questions to historiographers and makes them think about the need to expand the stated problem fields, including by attracting new types of historical sources and using new research methods and approaches for their analysis.
