Thermal and Morphological Investigation of Adding Silicon Carbide as a Nano-Material to a Carbon Fibre Composites: Numerical and Experimental Analysis

This research investigates the mechanical, morphological, and thermal properties of carbon fiber composites with Silicon Carbide (SiC) nanoparticles. Both composites were produced using Vacuum Bagging Molding (VBM) and analyzed through numerical and experimental methods, including tensile tests (ASTM D3039), ultrasonic three-point bending fatigue tests (ASTM C1360), and morphological examinations (ASTM D1894). The steady-state thermal analysis was conducted using ANSYS. The modified composites contained 2% and 8% wt. of SiC nanoparticles. Results showed improvements in tensile strength by 23% and 44%, modulus of elasticity by 11% and 21%, and breaking force by 12% to 47%. Fatigue tests showed a 5.3% improvement. SEM revealed enhanced fiber-matrix interface strength. Thermal analysis indicated efficient heat distribution in the modified composites, suggesting better thermal stability. Incorporating SiC nanoparticles provides promising mechanical and thermal properties, suitable for various industrial applications.
